Shape of Despair is a funeral doom metal band from Finland that was formed in 1995 as Raven. They changed their name in September 1998. The band is signed to Spinefarm Records.
Shape of Despair's first recording under their current name was their 1998 promo tape. This was also their first recording released to the public, as Alone in the Mist was never officially distributed. The band has since released three albums and a compilation, and also participated in the 2006 Skepticism tribute album.
The release of the band's first new material in several years is scheduled for late October/beginning of November 2010 through Solarfall Records (sub-label of Aftermath Music). According to a recent update, the band has completed a two track EP which will be entitled 'Written In My Scars'.
